Carlsbad is a resort city on the California coast in North San Diego County. There are over 90,000 residents in this classy North County city by the ocean, thirty miles north of San Diego. The northern area of the town is part of a Tri-city, including southern Oceanside and western Vista. 

Education

The schools of Carlsbad belong to the Carlsbad Unified School District. There are a number of elementary schools for locals to choose from. Upon entering sixth grade, public school students attend Calavera Hills Middle School, Aviara Oaks Middle School or Valley Middle School. Students have two choices for public high school, Carlsbad High School and La Costa Canyon High School. There are several private schools in Carlsbad as well, including a military prep academy and a Montessori school. Those interested in attaining degrees from a local college will find opportunities in Carlsbad and nearby cities. Carlsbad has a campus for a San Diego-based National University as well as the Aristotle University College of Law. In the neighboring city of Oceanside, people can earn a two-year Associate degrees at MiraCosta College. The city of Vista has the private Biola University.

Recreation

A huge part of the local culture is The Village downtown where residents will find some unique shopping opportunities. Shopping is also available at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets. There are two libraries, the Carlsbad City Library and the Georgina Cole Library. Children have a skate park and the Legoland theme park for their entertainment. Carlsbad is full of natural beauty as well—there are three lagoons (Buena Vista, Carlsbad and Batiquitos) and one lake in the city. There are numerous nice beaches and some caverns just outside the city. There are plenty of hiking trails and the city is biker-friendly. 40% of Carlsbad’s land is open space. A major attraction of Carlsbad is The Flower Fields, which are amazing in the spring.
